From standard to integration#
An open data standard is only useful if it connects to the systems people actually use. Today we’re publishing integration guides for seven platforms across four categories — showing exactly how INHERIT maps to the data models of the tools legal professionals, wealth managers, and probate practitioners work with every day.
What’s included#
Full integration guides#
These platforms have public, documented APIs. The guides include field-level mapping between the platform’s data model and INHERIT schemas, authentication details, and code examples.
-
Clio ↗ (US, CA, UK, AU) — the world’s leading legal practice management platform, serving 150,000+ legal professionals. The guide maps Clio’s Contacts, Matters, and 13 Wills & Estates Custom Field Sets to INHERIT’s estate schemas.
-
Actionstep ↗ (NZ, AU, US, UK) — cloud-based practice management with dedicated estate planning and probate workflow templates. The guide covers Actions, Participants, and Data Collections.
-
Wealth.com ↗ (US) — estate planning for financial advisers and wealth managers. The guide maps Wealth.com’s REST API, SFTP bulk format, and the output from its AI engine “Ester” which parses trusts and wills into structured data.
-
Addepar ↗ (US, Global) — wealth management platform with 300+ entity attributes. The guide maps Addepar’s entity hierarchy and ownership percentages to INHERIT’s asset and organisation schemas.
Partial and proposed guides#
These platforms have limited or undocumented APIs. The guides cover conceptual mapping and how INHERIT could serve as the interchange format.
-
Settld ↗ (UK) — bereavement notification for 1,400+ service providers. There is currently no open data standard for death notifications in the UK. The guide proposes how INHERIT could serve as the payload format for a future Bereavement API — eliminating the need for every estate platform to build bespoke integrations with every service provider.
-
Estateably ↗ (CA, US) — probate administration platform automating court forms and estate accounting. The guide maps Estateably’s probate entities to INHERIT.
-
LegalZoom ↗ (US) — the largest consumer legal services platform in the US, with an estimated four million+ wills created. The guide proposes an Embedded Legal Services Flow for structured data export.
Why this matters#
Every handover between systems in estate administration is currently a PDF, a spreadsheet, or a phone call. Data is re-keyed, errors are introduced, and families wait weeks for processes that should take days.
These integration guides show a different path: a common data format that every platform can read and write. A solicitor using Clio can export an estate into INHERIT format. A wealth manager on Addepar can import it. A bereavement notification service like Settld can consume it. No bespoke integrations, no data re-entry, no format conversions.
What’s next#
We’re working on integration guides for LEAP Legal Software, PracticePanther, and Rocket Lawyer. If your platform handles estate data and you’d like to explore integration, get in touch or visit the developer portal for the full technical guides.
